PROFESSOR DR. ALDRIN ABDULLAH APPOINTED AS USM DVC (STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ALUMNI) FROM 1 MARCH 2019
The Director of the Institutional Planning and Strategic Centre (IPSC) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Aldrin Abdullah, 50, has been appointed by the Minister of Education as the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Student Development Affairs and Alumni) beginning 1 March 2019 for the next three years.
Aldrin takes over the post from Professor Dato Dr. Adnan Hussein, who has been in office since 1 December 2011.
Born in Klang Selangor, he was raised in Manchester, England and later in Singapore before returning to continue his studies at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (English College) in Johore Baharu and Bukit Bintang Boys’ School.
He completed his undergraduate studies in Architecture at the School of Housing, Building and Planning (HBP) at USM.
While he was at USM, he was active in sports and was the Vice-President of the Students’ Society at HBP.
He was a Gold Medal recipient for his excellent achievements in his studies in Architecture.
Aldrin then continued his studies at the Master’s and PhD levels at the University of Sheffield, England.
As an expert in the area of Design, he has contributed widely towards the interior and landscape design for the Peace Garden in Sheffield, England; the Arau Palace and the Agro Park in Seberang Perai.
His research concerning crime prevention through environmental design and his latest publication were recently released in an international book entitled: Rebuilding Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
He has also been invited to share his expertise in the field of crime prevention in countries such as Japan, Indonesia, Sudan and Turkey.
From the administrative side, Aldrin was formerly a Deputy Dean (Academic) at HBP; the Deputy Director, Institutional Development Division and former Dean of HBP for 6 years prior to the appointment as the Director of IPSC at USM.
